January 2024: Vicar’s Update

Dear Everyone: Firstly, I hope that you’ve all had a special Christmastide, and I wish you all a blessed 2024. 

Christmas services & events: THANK YOU to everyone who worked so hard to ensure that all our Christmas services and special events went so well. The total numbers of attendees (combining St Stephen’s and All Saints’) were 1,048. This is an increase on the last two years (though still well down on pre COVID-19 numbers). This may be an indication that we are beginning to move on/bounce back from COVID. I think also, based on conversations with visitors, at a time of global uncertainly and insecurity, and the impact on our lives, many are seeking some answers, alongside a sense of peace and a connection with the spiritual side of their lives. 

Sunday January 7th: 9.15 am Morning Prayer at St Stephen’s, Tim leading and Rev Bob preaching; 11.00 am 4ALL in All Saints’. This will not be a café style service.

January PCC Meeting: Please note this is on Tuesday 9th at St Stephen’s in Borrowash, beginning at the usual time of 7.30pm.

January John Hill’s Men’s Breakfast: Will be on Sat 13th at the Malt Shovel, Shardlow, beginning at 10 am. All most welcome

Becky & Patrick: Their last Sunday will be February 11th. We will be hosting a shared lunch after the 11am service in All Saints’ to which all are welcome. Chris Connor (01332 781475) has kindly agreed to coordinate this. If you can help, please let her know. If you are attending and can bring a savoury/dessert, please sign the sheets in each church. For those wishing to contribute to a collection for a leaving present, there are collection boxes in both churches.  

Vicarage Office Phone: The phone line has been fixed and a new answerphone is now in use. Apologies for any inconvenience caused over the last month.

Choir: The newly formed choir will lead worship at the 9.15 am Sunday services on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month, commencing on Jan. 14th & 28th.

Please Pray: For George Beaver (awaiting an op.) & Peter & Margaret Parkin (now in MHA Willowcroft Residential & Dementia Care Home, Spondon).
