Christening / Thanksgiving

A new life is always a time to rejoice and we are always happy to discuss opportunities for Christening (referred to baptism as well) and Thanksgiving services with parents.

Christening is the start of an amazing journey of faith for your child and a special day for all your family and friends.

If you do not already attend one of our Sunday services we encourage parents to attend church for at least six weeks prior to making a decision, so that you are fully aware of what it means to be part of the church family and whether you wish to join that family through christening.  A member of the clergy team is always available throughout the process to answer questions and arrange details.

Due to Church of England regulations, it is unusual to christen anyone who lives outside of the parish or does not have direct connections with the church.

Please contact the vicar, who will be in touch with you to discuss further.

Thanksgiving is a special, but simple, service, which is a lovely time when you can be with friends and family, ask for God’s blessing and pray for your baby. It’s different from a christening so read on to discover whether this is something to explore further with us.

It’s possible to have this service instead of a christening if you decide that now isn’t the right time to have your child baptised.

You might also choose this service when your baby is just born, or if you have adopted a child into your family and you simply want to celebrate this with special words said by a vicar in church.

It is a similar service to a christening, including Godparents (often called sponsors), but without water.

Whatever the reason, our vicar will be delighted to talk to you about this service
